Boldly sculpting acetate and slicing through premium titanium with the audacity and precision of real trailblazers, J.F. Rey has been delivering eyewear designs that truly stun for years. Their new PRISMA collection takes things a step further, delving deeper into experimental geometry and reinventing familiar styles with unexpected twists of both shape and thickness of various frame elements. With a new lineup of specs that are just as exquisite and artistic as they are raw-vibed, the French brand once again proves that refinement has an unhinged lining.
The frames in the PRISMA collection are simply impossible to miss—they catch your eye at once, both with their vibrant colors and standout silhouettes. The way the two work together allows J.F. Rey's eyewear to surpass the boundaries of mere optics and take off into the highest orbits where fashion gains an art-like quality. Skillfully putting their innovative vision into equally advanced, expertly handled materials, the label keeps evolving and perfecting their distinctive style with one single goal—to surprise and amaze us each time, to create something next-level when it seems there is already none to be reached. The PRISMA collection is a glowing example of how it's done, the J.F. Rey way.
The styles of the new J.F. Rey's PRISMA glasses make sure to cater to as many face shapes as possible without wandering away from their aesthetic cohesiveness. They range from distinctively square to charmingly rounded and romp all the way back up and down the untrodden steps of experimental geometry. The proportions and contour flow of each frame differ every time, though, with every model having its own, singular vibe, especially coupled with unique color palettes. While the Scarlet comes in strong and vibrant with its flat outer edges and layered frame, the JF1565 does a curious visual trick with the combination of muted gradients and bold patterned frame corners. The same corners can be seen in the JF1564, where they lend a totally different impression, being paired with two almost perfect circles. On the other hand, the JF1567, another round style, leans more towards timeless pantos, with its charmingly jutting-out end pieces and just a minor, very soft outward angularity, giving it a slight butterfly quality.
Cat-eyes play it sassy with the chunky, angular Ruby that showcases the same layered architecture as the Scarlet (both are also adorned by what J.F. Rey is marketing as its new 'square concept'—a distinct contrasting square patch embedded into the massive temples). Meanwhile, the less eccentric JF1566 takes a more discreet approach with cleaner lines and beautiful, lucid colorways that hum together at a crystal-clear pitch. Finally, there are two new hexagonal designs, the perfectly symmetric JF1563 and the asymmetrically amazing JF1568, offering equally interesting and elegant geometric moves if you're looking to step away from traditional shapes but do it with dignity.
All frames in J.F. Rey's PRISMA collection are built from high-quality acetate, durable and lightweight. Some designs might also include decorative metal elements for that lovely extra sheen. The hinges and core wires are also titanium—that's to ensure the frames are sturdy, flexible, and fit to be worn for years.
As of now, this collection includes optical frames only. However, it's still very new, so the brand may still follow up with sunglass counterparts for all or at least some PRISMA eyeglasses in the future.
