The world-known brand Dolce & Gabbana was founded in Milan in 1985 and was named after Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who then worked together. The history of the fashion house started barely 35 year ago during which two great couturiers created several lines of clothing and accessories, participated in the production of phones and even cars.
The prominent duet transformed the intricate ideas in countless amazing designs including innovative wardrobe items: bustier dresses, torn and richly decorated jeans, men's suits worn on a naked woman’s body and lingerie style.
The basic principle which they were guided by and which formed their approach to fashion can be reflected in the phrase: it doesn't matter who the person is, the main thing is how he wants to look. Dolce & Gabbana was the first brand to completely ban fashion status, focusing solely on style. And this style has become a constant provocation, balancing on the verge of decency, undisguised demonstration of sexuality and luxury. Dolce & Gabbana - it is always temperament and passion. The brand's designs are a mixture of techniques, styles, materials and even epochs which combine luxury and unique creations.
In 1982, working in one studio as assistants, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce decided to create a joint fashion business. They opened a small studio in Milan and made their first collection of clothes which was shown to the public in one of Milan's cafes. The designers declared themselves boldly and confidently, becoming popular almost immediately after the creation of the company.
In October 1985, at the Milano Collezioni show they presented their collection and the star of the brand Dolce & Gabbana has risen. Designers showed to the world the line of women's clothes and accessories Real Women. They asked unprofessional models to show their designs on the catwalk, nevertheless, the collection made a real sensation. That show laid the foundation for Dolce & Gabbana's popularity among the fans. In the same year, the Dolce & Gabbana boutique was opened in Italy.
In 1987, the fashion house began to sew textile products, and two years later - swimwear and underwear. Designers paid special attention to the choice of material for clothing and chose knitwear as it was one of the favorites at that time. Such lightweight material which allowed air to pass through was especially appreciated for the hot climate of Italy. Dolce & Gabbana proceeded with their experiments with fabrics and soon introduced a new line of underwear and swimwear. Then global expansion began: they set to conquer Tokyo - the women's clothing from Dolce & Gabbana was presented at Japan Fashion Week while later in the United States Dolce & Gabbana exhibition hall was opened.
The collection of men's clothes was created in 1990 having been very successful it attracted universal attention and got the Woolmark Award. Stefano and Domenico both were fans of the Baroque era and Italian films of the 50-60s, they reflected this passion in all their creations.
In 1994, designers began the production of the D&G clothing line. It was intended for young people who wanted to be fashionable but did not have much money for this. The collection had bold features, disrespect for fashion as such was traced in its design. But the line did not last long. In 2011, fashion designers stopped producing D&G.
Every year, the fashion house creates about 30 collections. Almost at every show, designers present some creation that stands out from the rest. For example, in 1990, they designed the famous bustier dress which can be called as the true embodiment of Dolce & Gabbana style. Dolce & Gabbana is not just clothes or accessories. This is a lifestyle, feelings and individuality, a special culture and traditions of sexual luxury.
